Would you want these three clowns anywhere near our constitution and armed with a pencil and eraser? I sure don’t!
If you ask me, Malcolm Turnbull’s resurrection of the question, as to whether Australia should become a republic, is just another smokescreen by our next-to-useless politicians intended to distract the Australian people away from the real issues facing us today. The question of whether we become a republic is absolutely insignificant compared to the real problems facing this nation. Problems such as foreign ownership of Australian land and resources, the evils of political correctness, the assault on freedom of speech and Islamic immigration (or invasion?), to name just a few, are where our efforts should be concentrated.
In addition, the subject of whether we change to a Republic has already been settled and the Australian Republican Movement should just disband, go away and stop bothering us. What is to be gained by revisiting this discussion?
The financial burden, of a change to a Republic, is not something this country needs now, or in the future. To change to a republic would cost the nation many millions, if not hundreds of millions. There are lots of other far more important issues, like health, that need this money. We cannot afford to waste this money on some nefarious scheme designed to distract us. When we finally have politicians and public servants who have fixed all of the real problems and whose agenda is truly in support of the nation, then we can revisit this issue. However, I cannot see that happening for a very long time.
However, what really concerns me about a change to a republic is that this would require a complete rewrite, or replacement, of our constitution. As the poster above states, there is no way that I would want any of the clowns, that are presently ‘running’ this country, anywhere near our constitution. Anyone who thinks that the result would be better for Australians is kidding themselves. We wouldn’t gain rights and protections but you can bet that we would lose them. Letting the Liberals or Labor change our constitution would be dangerous but if the Greens got involved then the result would certainly be a disaster for all Australians.
I am not a Monarchist, and I have no love or interest in the Royal Family, but I firmly believe in the saying “don’t fix what ain’t broke”. Our present system may not be the absolute best but it does work.
Only when we have politicians and public servants, that we can trust, would I then consider a change to a republic. Looking at the present bunch of clowns there is no way I will support a move to a republic and I hope that my fellow Australians think likewise.
