If you ask me

No Sharia Law Here; Not now, Not ever!

If you ask me, in any nation there can only ever be one set of laws for all citizens and those laws must be for the benefit of all of the people. When you start introducing different laws for different citizens then you open the door to inequality, to corruption and to confusion and you start and chip away at national cohesion.

Accordingly, in any non-Muslim nation there is no room, no reason and no justification for imposing Sharia Law – not as the main law nor as a parallel law. This is especially true when you consider that many tenants, of Sharia Law, are totally unacceptable in modern societies. For years, western societies have been striving to give equal rights and consideration to women and now, in most western nations, women enjoy the same rights and status as men.  But Sharia law does not recognise equal rights and status for women, so how can anyone consider including it in the laws of any western nation. Indeed, rather than embrace Shari Law, it could be argued that it is the duty, of western nations, to encourage those countries that live under Sharia law to reform that set of laws, even abandon Sharia law and accept laws more in keeping with the modern world.

It would have been best if Sharia Law had been left in the Dark Ages where it belonged.

In consideration of the issue of immigrants trying to bring their laws to their new, adopted countries, it might be a good idea to revisit the words of one of America’s greatest presidents, Theodore Roosevelt who said, in 1919:

x

Now, while Theodore was talking about America, it is just as valid to substitute United kingdom, Australia, France, or any other country, in place of America. The sentiment remains true regardless of which country you are from – immigrants who embrace their new countries, declare themselves to be that nationality and accept the laws and customs of that land are welcome – anyone else should return to where they came from.
